Exclamation Small business intranet

We are a small business of three partners and a few employees/independent contractors. We would like an intranet solution that is not too expensive. We three partners are not in the same place everyday, but we need to communicate together daily.

We would lie these features:

1. A to-do list that we can all use together, not three to-do lists. That way, we can each add items, or take them off.

2. A joint calendar

3. Document storage

4. Group mailing list for business contacts

5. Project manager

There are probably other features we could use, but these are the main ones. The biggest stumbling block seems to b the simplest, which is a joint to-do list.

Does anyone know of such a system? We have looked and found nothing that suits all our needs.

Thank you. (PS - I am glad to have found this forum, looks like a lot of good information.)

If you really want to be cheap, consider using Google.

1. Google Calendar
2. Google Calendar
3. Google Documents
4. Google Groups
5. They don't have that one yet, but you could probably use something else.

Like Evan said Google is probably your best bet for the money. Specifically Google Apps which includes Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Spreadsheets, and presentations, GoogleTalk and Google Sites. You can maintain the To Do List within an online spreadsheet. Use Google Sites to create an intranet that you can use to collaborate on a project. With Google Calendar you can create shareable calendars (syncs automatically over the air with your Blackberry). The best part is it's all free!

Thanks for the suggestions. Anything else besides Google? We have our on server and would be willing to buy something we could host, or even pay for something hosted elsewhere. We just don't want to pay too much.

To avoid paying too much, I honestly think google might be your best bet; it's free.

Other than that, are the existing computers hooked up to the network? Can they all already access the server?

If so, you might want to get some CRM-type scripts, install an HTTP server on the server (maybe a LAMP actually) and then you can just do it all through a browser on the client computers.

(now if you have no idea what I said, use google)

OR...

Get the same CRM-type scripts, open source of course (free that way) and purchase web hosting, or install them on your already-existing site with .htaccess password protection and maybe SSL depending on the type of info you plan on storing on there.

You could also ismply start up a simple Web site and password protect everything beyond the homepage? Simple, organized Web site would run approximtaely $2500 in these parts. Perhaps less if you have developers, etc. on staff. Good luck!

There's a whole load of quality open source groupware packages out there.

Get a small server or pc, install Vtiger and Zimbra and Bob's your Auntie's live in lover.

Try www.Google.com/sites

You can create an internal website for your company and add widgets like calendars, bookmarks to suppliers and link to Google Documents. All free.
