Default advice on opening a tanning salon

I'm in the process of creating a business plan for a tanning salon. Any advice from existing salon owners could be very beneficial to me and would be greatly appreciated. Actually, anyones advice would be appreciated.

I'll provide a few details.

location- suburb of Vancouver BC Canada
working capital- 150k to 200k
size- 4 to 6 beds
experience-small business owner for 8 years in a completely different field

My wife would run the show. She has 10 years experience in retail sales. 5 years of that was working in a weightloss center selling both services and product, much like a tanning salon. I can't say enough about her character. She's bright, energetic, responsible, ethical and I can go on and on.( No she's not looking over my shoulder and we're not newlyweds, just stating facts.)

thanks in advance

are you going to compete on Price, Quality, or Service?

pick 1?

Advertising and atmosphere would probably be the 2 things id think most about.

advertising=getting your customers to try your business
Atmosphere= 'wow this is really nice, ill come back'

is this a seasonal business? id think it would be slow in the summer...how will you handle this slow down?

you could network & advertise with travel agents?

will you offer massages, etc?

Try searching for tanning salon industry groups - I know there are some and they are a good source of info and contact with other owners (which are probably one of the best sources of information).
