Default New hosting company

I'm starting a search for a new hosting company and figured I'd start here. I'm interested in hearing who you use and your recommendations. If you own a hosting company I'd like to hear about details such as support hours, average wait time when calling for support, different hosting plans and disaster recovery plans.

Just out of curiousity, why do you feel a need to change hosting companies. It may help those who are on the board that may want to put together a quote....

You're right. I should have mentioned that. This morning our site was down for at least three hours. This is the second time it's happened in the last 4-6 weeks. The last excuse was that they lost power and their generator didn't start. I haven't heard what today's excuse is. I used to work in a high tech call center and worked on several revisions of our disaster recovery plan so when major outages happen I have little sympathy for the company and their lack of preparedness.

Am I asking too much?

Here are some general stats about our current setup:

5 email accounts/up to 50 allowed
1000 MB disk space available, 42% used
5 databases
100,000 visits per month

I agree Aaron, yopu're not asking too much. I'm not happy with my host either, so I won't recommend them. I will be bailing on them very soon. Don't go on what used to be either. I used to deal with one that was excellent a few years ago, but now they suck. Make sure the ratings are current.

You might check out Hostway. That is who we used to use (we did not leave them because we were unhappy). I was pleased with their uptime. They sometimes were able to help me when I had other problems with the site - that was not necessarily to do with hosting.

Aaron, i would be happy to offer my services to help a member of this fine forum. I have been hosting websites of all sizes since early 2002. All of my servers are on redundent(at least 5, up to 12) diffrent internet connections(almost all OC grade) we have redundent power backups, with almost no outages. In the last two years i think we where down for a total of about 2 hours, for schedule matanance mostly and a couple hickups but nothing as bad as you mentioned above.

Our package that looks pretty close to what you have is

800mb Disk Space(so a little less then what you currently have but still a lot more then what you are using)
unlimited email accounts(1gb of space for emails total)
10 MySQL DB's
Cpanel
Online/Offline tech support. Our posted hours are frmo 8-8 but we always have someone arround to help out even after that.

The listed price for this is 9.95/month, but I will be more then happy to work with you on a price.

Also if you are interested in a diffrent package i can customize one for you.

That's certainly a good price for the package. I'll add you to my short list of candidates. I may PM you some questions over the next couple weeks.

Which of the two sites in your signature is for hosting?

neither, actually our main hosting companies website is under construction at this time. It is http://KBServers.com I can send you more information about what the packages include, since the site is not completed in that regard.

I use 1and1.com They have a ton of additional services and have a great price compared to what I had in the past.

Great customer service also if you run into problems
